Before you set off
- Starts at
- It-Tokk, la piazza principale di Victoria, dove si monta il mercato del mattino. La stazione degli autobus è a due minuti a piedi e ogni linea di Gozo ci passa.
- Finishes at
- I giardini di Villa Rundle su Republic Street, di nuovo giù in città: ombreggiati, con panchine, e a pochi minuti dalla stazione degli autobus.
- Getting there
- Il traghetto da Ċirkewwa, a Malta, attraversa fino a Mġarr, a Gozo, in circa venticinque minuti, e gli autobus attendono la nave per la salita a Victoria. Ogni linea di Gozo passa per Victoria, quindi tornare al traghetto dall’arrivo è semplice.
- Underfoot
- La Cittadella sta su una collina e la passeggiata la sale. La salita dalla città alla porta è breve ma ripida, e dentro le mura il fondo è calcare irregolare con gradini a tratti. I bastioni hanno parapetti bassi e strapiombi profondi.
- Accessibility
- La metà in città della passeggiata è pianeggiante. La salita alla porta della Cittadella è ripida, e le vie all’interno sono irregolari: percorribili su ruote con sforzo e aiuto, in alcuni punti per niente. Il giro dei bastioni ha gradini. Le tappe in città e alla porta reggono da sole se la cittadella in sé è troppo.
- Best time
- Il mattino, mentre c’è il mercato e prima che il caldo si posi sulla collina; e le mura della Cittadella nel primo sereno sono la vista più bella dell’isola. La domenica mattina la città appartiene ai fedeli più che ai visitatori.
- È la più breve delle quattro passeggiate e quella in cui si sta più fermi. Le vedute sono il punto.
- Pochissima ombra dentro la Cittadella e nessuna sui bastioni. Acqua, cappello, e non alle due del pomeriggio in agosto.
- Caffè, bagni e negozi sono tutti nella città in basso, non su nella cittadella.
